CMSA's Executive Director, Cheri Lattimer, RN, BSN, continues, "While CMSA's members and leaders recognize case management is integral to the effective delivery of health care, the time has come to ensure consistent education, definitions and messaging are delivered to our Congressional delegations." To that end, CMSA invites you to participate in the 2011 Public Policy Summit in Washington, DC.

With rapid changes in health care, the launch of the Case Management Model Act, and updated CMSA Standards of Practice for Case Management, CMSA's Public Policy leaders want to extend the exciting work of the committee to every member of the association.

According to Margaret Leonard, MS, RN-BC, FNP, CMSA 2010-2011 Public Policy Committee Chair, "the term 'Case Management' is quickly being incorporated into many pieces of legislation, regulatory language, and state initiatives. While CMSA's Public Policy Committee has been active in DC for the last few years, the time is right for the full membership to become engaged."

Just a Reminder!!! Reserve your seat now for our December 3, 2008 meeting!!!

All of the ghosts, goblins and tricksters have gone (hopefully...), the treats have all been eaten and jack-o-lanterns have glowed their last.... Now is the time to start scouring those cookbooks and menu files for some mouth watering new, and of course, family favorite recipes... Will it be pumpkin or pecan, mashed or scalloped, chestnut or plain??? The days are certainly shorter and the chill is in the air, a time for cherishing good heath and spending time with family and good friends....

Please make sure to find time to join HV-CMSA in White Plains for our annual December Dinner Meeting.

We had a fantastic Case Management Celebration last week at Helen Hayes Hospital in Haverstraw!! More then 50 attendees braved the rain, wind and downed trees to attend a great event, informative session and delicious dinner graciously sponsored by PromptCare!!!! Many thanks to Deborah Bradley and Mary Morris at Helen Hayes Hospital Case Management for putting it all together and to Tom Krieder and Kathy Larson of PromptCare for tirelessly supporting the Hudson Valley Chapter of CMSA!!!

Many, many thanks to all those who attended... Laughs and raffles were numerous as were great gifts for all of our attendees!!! Remember; hold onto your seats, as there will be a lot more to come as we move into 2009!!!

Remember we have instituted a few changes in the RSVP meeting procedure for all of our chapter supporters' and we have a few quick updates so here goes a quick review...

1. For all future meetings we can only honor paid RSVP's. Attendee seating cannot be reserved or names added to the sign-in sheet unless payment is received by the cut-off date, which will always be the Friday prior to each meeting. Attendees shall always have the option and are welcome to "Pay-at-the- door" but will run the risk of being turned away should the event be booked to capacity.

2. An attachment will be included with all future notices to be completed and returned with payment. Information required by meeting sponsors will include name, address, home and work phone and current e-mail address. Also, sorry, there are no refunds or credits for future meetings given in the event that a person is unable to attend.

3. As announced at the October meeting we will be having an annual Case Manager of the Year award beginning this spring. We are currently looking for committee members to help us with the decision making process, please consider applying before our November meeting. The plan is for Chapter members to be nominated for this award by March 2009 based upon criteria that will be announced shortly… The winner may be eligible for a CMSA membership or National Conference and Expo attendance in addition to a HV-CMSA plaque to name a few. Stay tuned for the official application form coming January 2009!!!

4. Watch for our meeting announcements in Nursing Spectrum and Advance in the local news/regional news section, as we will be submitting information to these publications on a regular basis...

5. We are pleased to present our newly updated website. You can check the site to meet our Officers, Board of Directors, links to resources, employment opportunities and our upcoming events and sponsors. You may also contact us from the site and we appreciate any ideas, comments and suggestions. Please visit our new Hudson Valley CMSA website at www.hvcmsa.org and check it regularly for updates!!!

6. We have also just made arrangements for a two-day CCM course tentatively planned for February 2009. Stay tuned for more information via e-mail as we confirm all of the details!!!!

Thank-you all for continuing to support the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Case Management Society of America and please feel free to contact me directly in case of any questions or concerns.

Apple and pumpkin picking, colorful mums on the porch, leaves swirling in miniature tornados in the yard and the bittersweet smell of wood smoke in the air. I’ll bet Martha “you-know-who” is at home in Connecticut baking some wonderful aromatic and delicious fall dish… All signs that summer has past and the bountiful Harvest and the new HV-CMSA 2008-2009 season is upon us…

We had a fantastic Case Management Celebration last week with an all time record attendance of 80 plus attendees!!!! Yaaa Hoooo!!! Many, many thanks to all those who attended….John Otchy and Roche Laboratories generously sponsored the event, providing Cathy Mullahy, Author of the Case Management Handbook as speaker for the evening. Fun and raffles were numerous as were gifts for all attendees!!! For those that missed the event, you should certainly stay tuned, as this was just the beginning of the 2008-2009 HV-CMSA season!!! Hold onto your seats as there will be a lot more to come as we move into 2009!!!

Welcome Back HV-CMSA!!! Don't despair, we still have a few weeks left of good old Sweet Summer Time!!!

The HV-CMSA Board of Directors hopes that the summer of 2008 continues to be, at least for a few weeks anyway, an enjoyable time for family and friends.

In response to member comments and requests we have made the decision to commence the HV-CMSA educational season in October 2008 rather than in September. To make up for the missing educational opportunity we are planning on a meeting in January 2009. Please see the attached October "Save-The-Date" notice, making it possible for you to plan your schedules accordingly...

Please remember to reserve your seat early as space is limited. AND, also please note, in light of the fact that we are charged for all reserved meals regardless if the reservee is a no-show, beginning in November we are strongly considering honoring only PAID RESERVATIONS! Many times in the past we have had to compensate the restaurant for all reservations regardless of whether the reservee was in attendance so please remember this fact when you make your reservation.

All interested attendees will of course be able to take the chance of seat availability at the door but as space is often limited, we strongly encourage you to reserve your paid seat as early as possible!!!!

AND!!! We are happy to announce that in June of 2009, CMSA will be welcoming one of our own, Margaret (Peggy) Leonard into the position of National President of CMSA. What a source of pride we have for the Hudson Valley Chapter of CMSA as the next National President will be one of our own!!!

Thank-you all again for your continued support of the Hudson Valley Chapter of CMSA and we will see you October 1st, 2008!

Come Cruise With Us Aboard The River Rose!

The chapter’s annual River Rose Boat Cruise down the Hudson River will be taking place on June 6th, 2007 from 6-9:00 PM. Please reserve your place early as space is limited to the first 60 paid RSVP's. Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy not only the speaker and dinner but also the lovely scenery as we cruise aboard an actual riverboat! Many thanks to our generous sponsors for making this event possible!

There has also been some question regarding whether payment for advance RSVP's will be returned at this event. As indicated on the event notice, there will be a $20.00 contribution for all pre-registered attendees and $25.00 for those who register at the door. All contributions will be used to help the Chapter defray the cost of this wonderful event. We apologize for any confusion this may have presented.

HV-CMSA held a spectacular and hugely successful May dinner event last week! Taking place at a new and fabulous spot, Graziella’s in White Plains and sponsored by Allergen, Dr. Peter McAllister, Associated Neurologists of Southern Ct., P.C. presented, “Botulinum Neurotoxins: Expanding the Continuum of Care: Migraine and Spasticity.” Due to a fabulous and prompt response, over 60 attendees were treated to a four course; sit down dinner and as always, some pretty great raffle prizes. Three new members were also introduced and welcomed into the chapter.

In an effort to continue to thank our members for supporting the Hudson Valley Chapter of CMSA, the chapter raffled off a registration to CMSA’ s 17th Annual Conference & Expo. Congratulations to the lucky winner! The Annual Conference and Expo will be held in June, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Denver and Colorado Convention Center, Denver, Colorado.

Held at our favorite and familiar spot, Sam’s of Gedney Way in White Plains and sponsored by Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics, we presented, “An Introduction to Prosthetics and Orthotics for the Case Manager.” Due to a fabulous and prompt response, we were forced to limit the number of attendees but those in attendance were fortunate to meet and hear Cameron Clapp share his truly inspirational story. Keep watching your e-mail for information regarding our next meeting in May!

In an effort to continue to thank our members for supporting the Hudson Valley Chapter of CMSA, we are raffling off a registration to CMSA’ s 17th Annual Conference & Expo.
